My dad is a professor and sometimes he has exchange students in his class.
He wanted to be more helpful to students who may not be good at Mandarin (main language that he teaches in).
And so one day in class, he saw that there a few exchange students (obviously not Chinese) in the class.
So he asked – “If anyone doesn’t understand Mandarin, please raise your hand”
The sad part was that he asked this question in Mandarin, so the students that really don’t understand Mandarin would’ve never raised their hands…and forever continue to not understand his class
PS – luckily – one of his students who DO understand Mandarin told him about this mistake and he quickly proceeded to ask this question in English – to which some of those exchange students responded – problem solved
